Let Us Pray!
It was a terrifying day in the life of the nation of Judah. Invading armies had been spotted on the frontier and their numbers were overwhelming. The news came to King Jehoshaphat and this is what he did. " Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the LORD, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. The people of Judah came together to seek help from the LORD; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him." (2 Chronicles 20:3-4).
Judah's situation is not unlike that of our country today. We face many threats from inside and outside our borders. The answer for us is the same as it was for King Jehoshaphat - prayer! May 1st has been designated as a national day of prayer. In his National Day of Prayer proclamation President George W. Bush shared these words. "From our Nation's humble beginnings, prayer has guided our leaders and played a vital role in the life and history of the United States. Americans of many different faiths share the profound conviction that God listens to the voice of His children and pours His grace upon those who seek Him in prayer. By surrendering our lives to our loving Father, we learn to serve His eternal purposes, and we are strengthened, refreshed, and ready for all that may come."
I would encourage you to join with other Christians from the Montrose area on May 1st as we gather at 12:00 noon on the Montrose County Courthouse steps to pray for our community, our nation and our world. And don't stop there, why not make prayer a regular part of your life and see what Goad has in store for you. for more information on how you can pray for our nation see the National Day of Prayer website at www.ndptf.org.
In Christ's love,
